These are photos of our actual patients. We believe in showing both patients with excellent outcomes but also patients with realistic outcomes.
Looking critically at before and after photos is an essential part of preparing for your surgical procedure. Things to note are the patient’s age, weight, and overall body shape to try to find someone who is comparable to you. It is important to note that it takes at least 6-12 months to see the final results of most surgical procedures (almost every patient looks good while lying down on the OR table)! While we try to provide long term results, this is not always possible.
These are photos of our actual patients. We believe in showing both patients with excellent outcomes but also patients with realistic outcomes. We also want to show you what the scars look like. Not every surgeon has this philosophy but we value honesty and want to ensure that you have realistic expectations prior to proceeding with surgery. The only editing that has been done is to remove potentially identifying features (such as jewelry and tattoos), cropping/re-sizing, and adjusting the overall lighting. Consider all these factors when comparing our photos to those of other surgeons.

Gynecomastasia (Male Breast Reduction)

Case-96-Gynecomastia
This is a patient in his 40’s with bilateral gynecomastia. He desired a flatter, more masculine contour of the chest. He underwent liposuction of the fatty tissue and excision of the breast tissue with an arthroscopic shaver. 400 cc of tissue was removed from the left chest wall and 400 cc from the right chest wall. This is a minimally invasive technique that few surgeons in Michigan perform and can be done through a few ¼” incisions that are nicely camouflaged.
Case 48- Gynecomastia
This is a patient in his 30s with bilateral gynecomastia. He desired a flatter, more masculine contour of the chest. He underwent liposuction of the fatty tissue and excision of the breast tissue with an arthroscopic shaver. 200 cc of tissue was removed from the left breast and 300 cc from the right breast. This is a minimally invasive technique that few surgeons in Michigan perform and can be done through a few ¼” incisions that are nicely camouflaged.Dr. Sarah M. Elswick

Case 47- Gynecomastia
This is a patient in his 30s with bilateral gynecomastia, including a painful left breast mass. He desired an improvement in his symptoms and a more masculine contour of the chest. He underwent excision of the left breast mass through a periareolar incision followed by liposuction of the fatty tissue and excision of the breast tissue with an arthroscopic shaver of both breasts. 200 cc of tissue was removed from the left breast and 100 cc from the right breast.Dr. Sarah M. Elswick
Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Case 111- Abdominoplasty and Oblique Flankplasty
This is a patient in her 30s who had significant excess skin after massive weight loss (120 pounds) after undergoing a gastric sleeve. She was most bothered by the appearance of her abdomen and back, so much so that she felt more confident in body prior to the weight loss. She had symptoms from the extra skin, including rashes under the skin folds and pain in the abdomen when exercising. She underwent a circumferential abdominoplasty (without liposuction and muscle repair as she did not have any muscle separation) including a panniculectomy (with umbilical transposition) and oblique flankplasty (a form of a lower body lift). A total of 10.9 pounds was removed. The width of the skin excision was 15.6” on the abdomen and 9.9” on the back. She still has loose and redundant skin in the mid-back which will be addressed at a second surgery. She is much more confident in her body now!
Case 110- Abdominoplasty
This is a patient in her 40s who lost approximately 85 pounds after undergoing a gastric sleeve and experienced problems with her excess abdominal skin, including a heavy, pulling sensation in her abdomen, back pain, rashes under the skin folds, and difficulty working out. She underwent an abdominoplasty (without liposuction) during which 2904 g (6.3 pounds) of skin and fat was removed. Portions of this surgery are often covered by insurance if a patient loses at least 100 pounds and has associated symptoms.
Case94-Abdominoplasty
This is a patient in her 50’s who was bothered by the loose skin on her abdomen after having children and liposuction elsewhere. She underwent a tummy tuck with liposuction and with muscle repair. The skin and fat that was removed weighed 964 g (2.12 lbs) and was 24 cm wide (9.54”). Over a liter of fat was removed from the abdomen with liposuction (a little over 2 pounds). She also had a hernia repair at the time of her tummy tuck with another surgeon. Many times, elective abdominal procedures can be combined (even with multiple surgeons), which saves the patient time and money!Dr. Sarah M. Elswick

Case-138-Tummy-Tuck
This is a patient in her 40s who was bothered by the loose skin on her abdomen after having children and losing almost 100 pounds. She underwent a tummy tuck with limited muscle repair and no liposuction as she did not have an appreciable amount of excess fat. The skin and fat that was removed weighed 1173 g (2.59 lbs) and was 26 cm wide (1.18”).
Case 101.1- Abdominoplasty
This is a patient in her 40s who did not like the appearance of her abdomen after children. She said the skin had stretched and she felt like it looked like a smiley face. She also had a skin fold that was unsightly. She was unable to lose this extra weight and improve the appearance of her abdomen with exercise and diet. She underwent a tummy tuck with skin/fat excision, muscle tightening, and high definition liposuction (which removed 875 cc of fat- almost one liter). Up to 26.5 cm of the skin and fat was excised in the central abdomen (10.4”), which weighed 471 g (1.0 pounds) excluding the amount removed with the liposuction. She has a flat, taut abdomen now!
Case 14- Abdominoplasty: Fleur-de-lis
This is a patient in her 40s who had a lot of excess skin in her abdomen after a 200 pound weight loss after undergoing a gastric bypass. She had symptoms from the extra skin, including rashes under the skin folds and abdominal and back pain. She underwent a fleur-de-lis abdominoplasty, which is a tummy tuck that includes removal of both vertical and horizontal skin excess. She also underwent repair of her separated muscles. A total of 6.3 pounds of excess skin and fat was removed. Now she can appreciate the small tummy that was hiding under all that extra skin!
Case 61- Abdominoplasty
This is a patient in her 30s who wanted an improved appearance of her abdomen after having children. She noticed a large separation of her abdominal muscles and multiple hernias after pregnancies. She underwent an abdominoplasty with liposuction during which a maximum of 34 cm (13.38 inches) and 1332 g (2.9 pounds) was taken from her lower abdomen. 300 cc of fat was removed during the liposuction. The patient also had repair of her hernias done at the same time by a general surgeon. If you are considering any abdominal surgery, Dr. Elswick can frequently work with other surgical specialties to do these procedures at the same time.Dr. Sarah M. Elswick

Case 59- Abdominoplasty
This is a patient in his 50s with excess skin in his abdomen after undergoing liposuction with another surgeon. He wanted removal of this extra skin, especially in the upper abdomen. He underwent a skin-only abdominoplasty because he still had good abdominal muscle tone and did not require any muscle-tightening.Dr. Sarah M. Elswick

Case 58- Body Lift
This is patient in his 20s with excess skin and fat in the abdomen and love handles after a 90 pound weight loss. He underwent a circumfrential abdominoplasty, including a traditional abdominoplasty (with skin/fat excision and muscle tightening) and an oblique flankplasty (with skin/fat excision of the love handles). A total of 3240 g (7.1 pounds) of tissue was removed, which resulted in a nice, smooth contour around the waist.Dr. Sarah M. Elswick

Case 58.1- Body Lift
This is patient in his 20s with excess skin and fat in the abdomen and love handles after a 90 pound weight loss. He underwent a circumfrential abdominoplasty, including a traditional abdominoplasty (with skin/fat excision and muscle tightening) and an oblique flankplasty (with skin/fat excision of the love handles). A total of 3240 g (7.1 pounds) of tissue was removed, which resulted in a nice, smooth contour around the waist.Dr. Sarah M. Elswick

Case 13- Abdominoplasty
This is patient in her 40s who was bothered by the excess skin and “kangaroo pouch” that she had in her lower abdomen. She underwent an tummy tuck with skin/fat excision, muscle tightening, and high definition liposuction. Up to 20 cm of the skin and fat was excised in the central aspect of her abdomen (7.9”), which weighed 842 g (1.9 pounds). The patient is wearing silicone tape over her scars, which will help the scars fade over time.Dr. Sarah M. Elswick

Case 55- Abdominoplasty
This is a patient in her 40s who lost over approximately 100 pounds after undergoing a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and was bothered by the appearance of her abdomen. She had symptoms from excess abdominal skin, including itching and irritation under the skin folds. She underwent a tummy tuck (without liposuction) during which 1744 g (3.8 pounds) of skin and fat was removed. Almost one foot of excess vertical skin was removed. Given the patient had massive weight loss and symptoms of excess skin, a portion of this surgery was covered by insurance.Dr. Sarah M. Elswick
Tummy Tuck Revision

Case 57- Abdominoplasty Revision
This is a patient in her 50s who experienced contour irregularities after undergoing an abdominoplasty elsewhere. She underwent liposuction of the abdomen and flanks; a total of 250 cc of fat was removed. She also underwent a scar revision in the central aspect of the scar on the right side. This resulted in a much flatter, even contour of the abdomen.Dr. Sarah M. Elswick
Panniculectomy

Case 104- Panniculectomy
This is a patient in her 30s who had a lot of excess skin in her abdomen after massive weight loss (nearly 100 pounds) after undergoing a gastric sleeve. She had symptoms from the extra skin, including rashes under the skin folds with moisture that could cause a foul smell. She underwent a panniculectomy with removal of the belly button. She chose to remove the belly button so we could get out as much skin as possible (insurance considers moving the belly button a portion of a tummy tuck, which is cosmetic), but a new belly button can be created later down the road with a simple procedure that is done under local anesthetic. A panniculectomy can also be combined with a tummy tuck to save the belly button if desired. A total of 4.7 pounds was removed. The width of the skin excision was 10.4”. The patient also had a belly button hernia repaired at the same time.
Case 111- Abdominoplasty and Oblique Flankplasty

She had symptoms from the extra skin, including rashes under the skin folds and abdominal and back pain. She underwent a fleur-de-lis abdominoplasty, which is a tummy tuck that includes removal of both vertical and horizontal skin excess. She also underwent repair of her separated muscles. A total of 6.3 pounds of excess skin and fat was removed. Now she can appreciate the small tummy that was hiding under all that extra skin!

This is a patient in her 40’s with lipedema. She hated the excess skin and fat on her thighs after an almost 100-pound weight loss. She also noted pain the legs, especially when exercising. The patient underwent liposuction of the of the bilateral lower extremities and upper buttocks with removal of 3850 cc of fat! Ten months later she underwent a vertical thigh lift to remove the excess skin. She loves her new legs that match the rest of her body!

The patient underwent liposuction of the of the bilateral lower extremities and upper buttocks. A total of 250 cc cc of fat was obtained from the left upper buttocks, 275 cc from the right upper buttocks, 75 cc from the left saddlebag, 175 cc from the right saddlebag, 200 cc from the left posterior thigh, 200 cc from the right posterior thigh, 550 cc from the left posterior leg, 525 cc from the right posterior leg, 750 cc from the left anterior thigh, and 850 cc from the right anterior thigh for a total of 3850 cc which is over 8 pounds of fat! She later underwent a vertical thigh lift (see Case 0225).
Case 0226-Staged Thigh Liposuction and Thigh Lift
This is a patient in her 40’s with lipedema. She hated the excess skin and fat on her thighs after an almost 100-pound weight loss. She also noted pain the legs, especially when exercising. The patient underwent liposuction of the of the bilateral lower extremities and upper buttocks with removal of 3850 cc of fat! Ten months later she underwent a vertical thigh lift to remove the excess skin. She loves her new legs that match the rest of her body!
Case 0225-Thigh-Lift
This is a patient in her 40’s with lipedema. She hated the excess skin and fat on her thighs after an almost 100-pound weight loss. She also noted pain the legs, especially when exercising. The patient initially underwent liposuction of the of the bilateral lower extremities and upper buttocks with removal of 3850 cc (see Case 0224)! Ten months later she underwent a vertical thigh lift to remove the excess skin.
Case 60- Liposuction: Abdomen
This is a patient in her 30s who saw me in consultation for another concern and wondered if there was anything to do to improve the appearance of her abdomen. She did not mind how it looked but it had always been one of her problem spots. She was the perfect candidate for liposuction. By removing only 500 cc (1.1 pounds) of fat, you are now able to see her beautiful ab muscles that were camouflaged by a small amount of fat.Dr. Sarah M. Elswick
Butt Lift
Brazilian Butt Lift (Fat Grafting)

Case-0044-Brazilian-Butt-Lift
This is a patient in her 30s who was bothered by the relative flatness of her buttocks. She also desired slightly more volume of the buttocks in general. She initially came to me in consultation requesting Sculptra injection to these areas, and while this would have worked, she had better options available. She was nervous about the potential complications of surgery, which are minimized with proper training and technique. The patient really needed more volume than Sculptra could offer as well as sculpting of the abdomen, back, and thighs to enhance these areas. Moreover, a Brazilian butt lift is permanent and less expensive! A total of 1.85 L of fat was removed via liposuction (275 cc from the abdomen, 350 cc from each anterior thigh, 350 cc from the right back, 400 cc from the left back, 75 cc from the right posterior thigh in the area of the banana roll and 50 cc from the left banana roll). A total of 477 cc of fat was transferred to the right buttocks and 508 cc to the left buttocks.
Case 43- Brazilian Butt Lift
This is a patient in his 40s who wanted an improvement in the volume of his buttocks. He underwent a Brazilian butt lift; a total of 100 cc of fat was injected into the right buttocks and 105 cc of fat was injected into the left buttocks.Dr. Sarah M. Elswick

Case 79- Brazilian Butt Lift
This is a patient in her 30s who was bothered by her hip dips (the hollow areas on the side of the hips). She initially came to me in consultation requesting Sculptra injection to these areas, and while this would have worked, she had better options available. The patient really needed sculpting of the upper hips/left handles and lower back to decrease the volume in this area while adding volume to the hip dip area. The advantage of this is that the entire area is sculpted (rather than just adding volume to the hip dips with Sculptra), the results are permanent (Sculptra typically only lasts 2 years), and it even is less expensive! Think of this as a targeted Brazilian butt lift; the procedure and recovery are the same, but we are focusing on one specific area of the buttocks. A total of 1.6 L of fat was removed via liposuction from the back and upper hips (900 cc fat from the left back and 700 cc from the right back). A total of 400 mL of fat was transferred to each hip dip.Dr. Sarah M. Elswick
Gluteoplasty

Case-0081-Gluteoplasty-1-Month
This is a patient in her 40’s who had concerns about excess fat while maintaining a healthy diet and consistent exercise. She underwent a buttocks lift (gluteoplasty). In her case a superior purse-string gluteoplasty was performed. The excess skin and fat in the upper buttocks is actually retained and shaped to use for auto-augmentation (volume enhancement using the patient’s own tissue rather than a buttocks implant, which can be prone to complications). The maximal width of the skin excision on the right side was 8.8 cm and on the left side was 8.7 cm. She is much more confident with her nicely contoured glutes now!Back Lift

She also had excess sweating and chaffing in her arms that she treated with A&D ointment, cornstarch, and A&D ointment. The patient underwent a brachioplasty (arm lift) to remove the extra skin and fat utilizing a technique to hide the scar in the best position possible. She is much more confident with her slim arms!
Case-99B-Brachioplasty
This is a patient in her 50’s who has hated the excess skin and fat on her arms since she was very young. She was also concerned about the worsening appearance of cellulite on her arms. The patient underwent an arm lift (brachioplasty) to remove the extra skin and fat utilizing a technique to hide the scar in the best position possible along the bottom of the arm. On the right, 250 cc of fat and 10 cm (3.9 inches) of excess skin was removed and on the left side, 150 cc of fat 9.3 cm (3.7 inches) of excess skin was removed.
Case-99A-Brachioplasty

This is a patient in her 40s who was bothered by the appearance of her arms after a 140 pound weight loss. She was so self-conscious about her arms that she never wore shirts that showed this area. She also had so much extra skin and fat that she got rashes under the arms from the extra tissue. The arms also felt heavy. The patient underwent a brachioplasty (arm lift) to remove the extra skin and fat utilizing a technique to hide the scar in the best position possible. Can you find the scar?Dr. Sarah M. Elswick

Thigh Lift (Thighplasty)

Case 0224-Liposuction: Thighs
This is a patient in her 40’s with lipedema. She hated the excess skin and fat on her thighs after an almost 100-pound weight loss. She also noted pain the legs, especially when exercising.

Ten months later she underwent a vertical thigh lift to remove the excess skin.TAG: THIGHLIFT
Scar Revision
C- Section Scar Revision

Case 65- C-Section Scar Revision
This is a patient in her 40s who was bothered by the appearance of her c-section scar and the extra fat in her abdomen. She underwent a c-section scar revision and liposuction of the abdomen. C-section scars often do not heal well because they are not closed in layers, which leads to skin healing directly to muscle, rather than there being an intervening fatty layer. By cutting out the old scar and closing it in the appropriate fashion, this can lead to a much flatter and less noticeable scar!
