What are Biostimulators?

Biostimulators act by increasing collagen production in the body.  While you get a small amount of volume from the product itself, these products work over time to increase your body’s own collagen.  Due to this, results are not immediate so it will take 6-8 weeks to see changes from your injection.  These typically last 1-2 years.

These types of fillers cannot be dissolved after injecting.  Therefore, it is important to always ensure your provider is thoroughly trained and has experience injecting this product.  Our providers are highly qualified and take continuing education courses to ensure you are always in the best hands.

Sculptra®

Sculptra® (PLLA or Poly-L-Lactic Acid) is man-made material that is naturally absorbed by the body as it works to replace lost collagen.  Poly-L-lactic acid has been used for decades in dissolvable stitches and targets the underlying causes of facial aging.  It is an FDA approved injectable treatment used to correct shallow and deep smile lines, contour deficiencies including those due to fat loss, and other facial wrinkles. It gradually replaces your body’s own collagen, giving you a natural looking result.

Sculptra® usually consists of 2 to 3 treatments spaced 4- to 6 weeks apart for optimal results.  As you continue your treatments you will see the treated area become softer and fuller, giving you a less tired and aged appearance. The results can last up to 2 years.

Radiesse®

Radiesse® (CaHA or calcium hydroxylapatite) is an injectable filler composed of smooth calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres in a gel carrier.  Over time, the gel is absorbed, leading to gradual collagen growth.  It is an option for individuals looking to correct moderate to severe lines and wrinkles with a longer lasting result.  It is the first FDA-approved dermal filler for both your face and the back of your hands.   Radiesse® is also a thicker consistency than hyaluronic acid dermal fillers.  The filler can last 1-2 years.

PRP/PRFM (Platelet Rich Plasma with Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix)

This injection utilizes a small amount of your blood (PRP) which is spun in a centrifuge to separate out the golden “liquid gold” growth factors. These growth factors are typically active for several hours after the injection.  We use your PRP in combination with PRFM.  This is PRP in an advanced form. By creating a soft, natural matrix, the growth factors are released slowly over time for longer-lasting results. This product  stimulates your body to repair and renew building collagen, improves skin quality over time.  PRP/PRFM is completed in a series. Typically 3 treatments are recommended 4 weeks apart.

What to Expect

All procedures are performed in-office with minimal downtime. Sculptra® and Radiesse® involve precise injections. The injections are performed using fine needles or cannulas. Most patients return to their normal routine immediately after treatment.

Treatment Time: 30–60 minutes

Downtime: Minimal (may experience mild swelling or bruising)

Results:

• Sculptra® and PRP/PRFM Collagen develops gradually, with results becoming visible over several months.
• Radiesse®: Provides a subtle lift plus long-term collagen stimulation.

Longevity: results vary as your body naturally continues to stimulate collagen. Sculptra, Radiesse,and PRP require multiple treatments for best results The results can last up to two years.

Recovery

Recovery is minimal.  We ask that you avoid any strenuous exercise or activities where your head is below the heart until the day following your injection.  While every attempt is made to limit bruising from your injection, some is still possible.  Using ice and Arnica after your procedure can limit this.  Swelling and bruising can take up to 2 weeks to completely resolve.   It is important to consider the timing of your injection to avoid any important life events.  Sculptra will require daily massage to the area 5 times a day for 5 days.  For the other injections, we recommend waiting at least 2 weeks before having any facials, massages, etc. to prevent migration of the product.
